Man gets four years and one month in prison for fatally chopping another
The St Catherine聽Circuit Court has sentenced a聽man who fatally chopped another to imprisonment for four years and one month.
Lamar Hall, 29, had pleaded guilty to the murder of Paul Chambers, otherwise called 'Rasta', from聽Browns Town district, St Catherine.
Before Justice Bertram Morrison ruled today, attorney聽Deanna Mitchell told the court that Hall聽pleaded guilty to the offence, had聽spent聽five and a half years in custody and聽had a mental problem.
Justice Morrison said that 15 years was being considered, however,聽Hall would benefit聽from his guilty plea and the time spent in custody. This meant he would be sentenced to聽49 months'聽imprisonment.
The court was told that on April 1, 2019, Hall聽attacked Chambers with a machete and chopped him 23 times.
He was taken to the Linstead Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
